Navajo Technical University is Hiring a Data Specialist Near Crownpoint, NM

JOB PURPOSE:

The Office of Institutional Data and Reporting is searching for a meticulous and experienced Data Specialist to join our team. The central responsibility of the Data Specialist is to ensure compliance, data accuracy and data sharing while managing the National Student Clearinghouse and New Mexico Higher Education reporting. The Data Specialist should know how to examine new data system requirements and implement migration models. The ideal candidate will also have proven experience in data analysis and management, with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

This position description indicates, in general, the nature and levels of work, knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform job duties. It is not designated to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required or assigned to this position.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) reports, ensure compliances and data accuracy while using the institutional student management system; Jenzabar EX.
  • Manage and completes the New Mexico Higher Education (NMHED) reports and collaborates with other departments to ensure accurate data submission.
  • Launch and maintain student tracking database with NSC and develop interpretive reports and presentations.
  • Maintain and grant access/privileges of NSC.
  • Conduct National Student Clearinghouse usability training events among staff and faculty.
  • Extract information from NSC, NMHED or other data systems and summarizes it as needed for regularly required data reports, research projects, and ad hoc data requests.
  • Assist with updating Jenzabar EX Degree Trees/AIMS/ARC to validate data accuracy on student academic
  • Perform data extraction from InfoMaker system to meet incoming data request(s) by the Office of Institutional Data & Reporting, Admissions.
  • Verify and cross-check accuracy of data entry and reporting results.
  • Understands and routinely monitors Jenzabar Degree Trees and other systems needed to validate data accuracy for National Student Clearinghouse submissions.
  • Work collaboratively with other Jenzabar Module Managers to enhance the accuracy of data input and operational functions.
  • Work in partnership with National Student Clearinghouse and Jenzabar to maximize National Student Clearinghouse capabilities and services.
  • Work in partnership with National Student Clearinghouse and Jenzabar on projects to assist the university with strategic priorities.
  • Communicates results of data analyses in language tailored to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team and/or independently on projects and deadlines.
  • Creates surveys, databases, spreadsheets, and other records management systems to organize and facilitate data collection, analysis, and retention.
  • Prepare reports, distribute departmental inter-office correspondence, file, and provide general assistance to the Office of Institutional Data & Reporting department.
  • Participates in a variety of committees, presentations, special projects, improvement processes, and other institutional initiatives as needed.
  • This position does not directly supervise any other staff. May be responsible for directing the work of student workers when coordinating department tasks and projects.
  • The occupant of this position also performs other duties within the range of his or her qualifications, as assigned by the immediate supervisor or any higher-level authority to which the supervisor reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor degree in Information Technology or related program.
  • Familiar with Jenzabar database and National Student Clearinghouse.
  • Understands and implements effective database solutions and models to store and retrieve department data.
  • Two or more years' experience in data collection and reporting in higher education.
  • Willingness to learn and execute new information.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy/planning and organization.
  • Self-motivated and ambitious; ability to carry through on projects independently.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of computer and network technology and infrastructure.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and verify data from multiple formats.
  • In-depth knowledge of data retrieval and storage systems.
  • Ability to work independently on projects.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware systems and peripherals.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with end-user training and support.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills with the ability to deal effectively with all users, including students, staff, faculty and administrative staff.
  • Must have the ability to effectively manage a frequently changing workload.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
  • Ability to make comprehensive administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Importing and transferring data to a secure central database.
  • Performing regular data integrity and quality audits.
  • Experience and working knowledge of query logic.
  • Experience responding to requests for data.
  • Experience preparing reports involving data summaries and data visualization.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift/carry a maximum of 75 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty and the public.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and quick turnaround deadlines in a fast-changing environment.
  • Requires constant visual attention to fine, detailed data reports to identify and correct errors.
  • Possess and create analytical creativity.
  • Ability to drive to other sites to present analytical data.
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to collaborate with peers and University personnel across campus and to operate computer and other office equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is generally performed in an office setting with exceptions depending on the needs of the office.
  • The employee may be required to sit for prolonged periods. Occasionally, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach with hands and arms, walk, and stand.
  • Attend university training events or meetings based on need and request.
